Business Park

The historic partnership between Beecher Bay (Sc’ianew) First Nation, the City of Langford, and the District of Metchosin marks a groundbreaking step toward economic development and environmental stewardship. This collaboration, supported by the Province of British Columbia, includes a boundary adjustment that enables the creation of a new business park expected to generate up to 4,000 permanent jobs.

As part of the agreement, 250 acres of Beecher Bay treaty lands and an additional 155 acres of private land in Metchosin will be preserved as protected greenspace. The Beecher Bay First Nation will retain one-third ownership of the business park, creating a sustainable revenue stream and contributing to long-term economic independence.

The three communities have also established a tax-sharing agreement to ensure mutual benefit from future development. The partnership is rooted in extensive community consultation, which received overwhelming public support. Leaders from all sides praised the effort as a model for cooperation, reconciliation, and shared prosperity. This initiative is seen as a first-of-its-kind collaboration in B.C., uniting all levels of government with Indigenous and municipal partners. It balances rural preservation with urban growth, while placing reconciliation and sustainability at its core.

The agreement stands as a powerful example of how diverse communities can work together for a brighter, shared future.
